Greensand has been used as a soil amendment and conditioner since the early 1700s. Naturally occurring in marine sedimentary deposits, our Greensand is derived from the mineral Glauconite, a rich source of Potash and Iron. Greensand also has unique physical properties that are claimed to help loosen compacted clay soils and improve the moisture holding capacity of sandy loams.
Vegetable Gardens & Flower Beds:
To prepare new gardens, apply 5-10 lbs per 100 square feet and thoroughly mix into the top 3” of garden soil in spring or fall. For new transplants, add 1 tbsp per hole, mix into soil and water in well.
Containers & Houseplants:
For new plantings, add 1-2 tbsp per gallon of soil and mix thoroughly OR add 2.5-5 lbs per cubic yard. For established plants, lightly mix 1-2 tbsp per gallon into the soil surface every other month during the growing season.
Trees & Shrubs:
Spread 1-2 lbs per 1″ of trunk diameter around the base outwards to the drip line, mix into soil surface and water in well. For grapes, apply ½-1 lb to the soil around each plant and thoroughly mix into soil. For new trees, prepare transplant hole and mix 1-2 lbs with the backfill soil. Use the amended soil to fill in around the new tree and water in well.
Row Crops/Acreage:
Apply 500-2,000 lbs per acre initially, followed by annual maintenance applications of 250-500 lbs per acre or according to specific crop needs and soil quality.
